Born in the Philippines, Executive Chef Joseph Buenconsejo moved to the United States at the young age of 20 to pursue a career in the culinary arts. After cutting his teeth in the kitchens of such notable chefs as Wayne Nish and Jean-Georges Vongerichten in New York City, he spent three years in San Francisco, the place where he discovered his true culinary potential at top restaurants such as Aqua and Masa’s. Upon coming back to New York, he worked under Chef John DeLucie as the opening chef de cuisine at The Lion, finally making a home for himself over the past two plus years at Hotel Americano in New York City’s Chelsea. Blending his French training with his love of seasonal product, Buenconsejo is responsible for both of The Americano’s two kitchens – the hotel’s bustling Main Dining Room, and the newly unveiled rooftop spot, Artico.
