Baja Meets NYC Dinners
Multi-course paired wine dinners cooked by Baja chefs at various NYC restaurants.

NYC Chef Danny Mena’s Hecho en Dumbo’s swank sister spot, Salon Hecho, opens its doors to acclaimed Baja Chef Diego Hernández-Baquedano. The young chef recently saw his work and restaurant recognized when the Latin America 50 Best list was unveiled this year in Lima, Peru. Taking a break from fronting Valle de Guadalupe’s beloved Corazón del Tierra, Hernández-Baquedano and Danny Mena will cook a multi-course dinner paired with six different Baja wines.  Phil and Eileen Gregory, proprietors of wine country retreat La Villa del Valle, where Corazón del Tierra resides, and winemakers behind Vena Cava winery and Aborigen will also be in attendance.

Fonda’s NYC Chef Roberto Santibañez opens his doors to Baja Chef Javier Plascencia of Tijuana’s Misión 19 and Valle de Guadalupe’s campestre-style Finca Altozano.  Plascencia, known for revolutionizing Tijuana’s culinary scene, and his deep involvement in the Baja Culinary Fest, will join Santibañez and cook a multi-course dinner paired with six different Baja wines.  Visiting winemakers from Tres Valles and Cava Aragon 126/Madera 5 will also be in attendance.

Chef Julian Medina’s New York City empire which includes Yerba Buena, Coppelia, and three Toloache outposts, welcomes Baja Chef Drew Deckman into Toloache’s downtown project on Thompson Street. At Deckman’s en el Mogor, set alongside the chicken coops and within the tangled vines of the Mogor Badan Winery, Deckman brought the table to the farm. At Toloache, he’ll be cooking a multi-course dinner focused on sustainable ingredients paired with six different Baja wines alongside Chef Medina. Visiting winemakers from Casa de Piedra and Vinas de Garza will also be in attendance.

As Mexican-owned Grupo Habita’s only American property, Hotel Americano will host the final dinner in the Baja Meets NYC series. A grand tasting of plates and pours of all visiting winemakers and chefs, Saturday night’s Cena Maridaje will be served in a multi-course format. Guests will have the opportunity to taste Javier Plascencia, Diego Hernández-Baquedano, and Drew Deckman’s creations, paired with Valle de Guadalupe wines from winemakers Hugo d’Acosta (Casa de Piedra, Aborigen), Phil Gregory (Vena Cava), Amado Garza (Viñas de Garza), Mauricio Cantú (Cava Aragon 126, Madera 5), and Joaquin Prieto (Tres Valles).  Pastry chef to be announced.
